Keeping Health Information Human: AHIMA Celebrates 32nd Annual HIP Week
Health Information Professionals Week Set for April 18-24, 2021
CHICAGO – April 16, 2021 – The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) will honor and celebrate health information professionals during the 32nd annual Health Information Professionals (HIP) Week April 18-24, 2021. This year’s theme is “Keeping Health Information Human.”
“Health information professionals are trusted by patients and providers alike with the most sensitive data that exists about a person, while making sure it’s available where and when it’s needed,” said AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE. “The commitment of health information professionals to keep patient health information reliable and protected at all times is critical. I am excited to celebrate their work to keep health information human, because when health information stays human, it stays relevant.”
During HIP Week, health information professionals engage in focused activities at their healthcare organizations and in their communities to raise awareness of their important work. In addition, health systems recognize the accomplishments of their health information team during HIP Week.
Visit the hipweek.org website to explore first-hand accounts of how health information professionals impact the healthcare ecosystem and patient care. The website also features thought leadership pieces on advancing patient care, and it recognizes the professionals and the organizations who support AHIMA’s goal of keeping health information human.
“Health information professionals see patients in a way no other healthcare professional does,” said AHIMA President/Chair Katherine Lusk, MHSM, RHIA, FAHIMA. “Make sure to visit hipweek.org and learn more about important healthcare issues, including social determinants of health, patient identification and matching, and information blocking.”
Individuals who wish to recognize a health information professional can donate to the AHIMA Foundation in their honor and AHIMA will recognize them on social media during HIP Week. Follow the hashtag #HIPWEEK21 to see how individuals and organizations celebrate.
