AHIMA Joins G20 Health and Development Partnership
CHICAGO – March 16, 2021 – The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) announced it has been accepted to join the G20 Health and Development Partnership (G20 HDP), an influential advocacy group that seeks to elevate health on the political agendas of governments within the G20.
“AHIMA is honored to join the G20 Health and Development Partnership,” said AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE. “As we have seen the COVID-19 pandemic accelerate the need for accurate and quality health information, AHIMA is excited to share its wealth of knowledge and experience to support the G20 Health and Development Partnership in the pursuit of its important goals.”
Harris will speak at the G20 Health Work Group on March 25-26. AHIMA President Katherine Lusk, MHSM, RHIA, FAHIMA, said the partnership will help AHIMA champion health information professionals around the world.
“I believe an increased global recognition of the importance of health information benefits health care delivery everywhere,” Lusk said. “I know our members feel pride in knowing that AHIMA is part of such an important and respected partnership.”
AHIMA International Vice President Christina Roosen said the COVID-19 pandemic has made collaborations like the G20 HDP more critical than ever.
“The pandemic has highlighted that our challenges in healthcare are global. Together, we need to address the common flaws in our health systems, identify global best practices, and hold ourselves to the highest standards,” Roosen said. “A strong focus on health information is critical because it is vital to healthcare transformation. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the G20 HDP and look forward to making a positive impact on the global healthcare ecosystem.”
